The "Aeol" (aeol* is French for windmill) is a giant -- you guessed it -- windmill on the Gaspe Peninsula in the Province of Quebec. When I visited it in 1998 it was a tourist attraction rather than a working windmill. And what an attraction! The Aeol was visible from miles away. I was thrilled when I found that my mother and I, when we were on a birding trip to the Gaspe, could actually stop and tour the Aeol.
Our journal from that year records: "We went to the Aeolienne in Cap-Chat . . . We struggled to keep up with the French-speaking tour guide’s explanation, delivered as the group sat in the autobus circling the installation from the outside. Eventually, she kindly located an English speaking boy to tell us about the inside. Just as well. The story of the windmill was very technical and quite amazing and fascinating."
