Bay Street Mound

Fountain of Light

Facing the street, the mound is cut away to show this little faux falls and pool.  They have nothing to do with anything local, but it can't be denied that they look good.  The ensemble is carefully crafted; what looks like conglomerate in the foreground is actually built to look that way, and includes shiny bits of colored glass to enhance viewing pleasure.  The vertical white lines in the pool's central rock are mirrored elswhere throughout the installation, a ready admission that the whole thing is artifice, and also a tribute to the massive forces necessary to putting such artifice in place.

Falling Water

I would have enjoyed watching the construction of this installation. Even though I work only a hundred yards away, I had no idea it was going on.  Until the night I walked down the mall to buy a sandwhich and, on my way back, found the resuscitated mouth of the Temescal.

The location of the Mound is such that it's mostly ignored and unseen; the whole thing is simply very easy to walk or drive by. There are a few benches scattered about the small memorial, but no habitat to attract interesting wildlife (as I mentioned, the creek is in a concrete channel here) and nothing much to look at, other than the traffic that borders it on three sides and . . .
