escalators of the district of columbia

Washington DC Metro

In this station, not only was there the waffled arch of the metro tunnel to enjoy, but a gratuitous concrete worm of a walkway squirming along on the upper level, as well*.  I also loved the footlights running along the edge of the track; these lit up whenever a train was approaching.  Out here in California we don't have fancy sh*t like that. All we have here is Bot's Dots, and believe me, Bot's Dots are just not that interesting after a while.

Stacked Escalator Steps in Repair Area, DC Metro

What the DC Metro has in common with every other metro in the world, though, is that 76.7% of its escalators are out of service at any given time.  This is a bunch of escalator steps piled up along a platform wall behind a barrier.  You can attribute the blur either to art or low light; it's all the same to me.
