City of Pride and Purpose. That's Richmond, California. Richmond is just north of San Francisco; on the map, it's part of the same urban sprawl. In reality, "Richmond" (meaning the municipalities of Richmond, North Richmond, San Pablo, El Sobrante, Pinole, Rodeo, Hercules, etc) is a universe apart from the City of Sin and its sister City of Snarkeley across the bay . . . for which everyone is thankful.
Mabel's Adult Books and Videos (after the fire)
The Mabel's building is on 23rd Street, which was a thriving commercial area back in the day and later became the kind of place you might find a Mabel's in. The 23rd street corridor is being aggressively rehabbed currently and, last I saw, the Mabel's building has been converted into a dreadfully cheerful, wholesome and nourishing taqueria. (I dont' know anything about the fire, but judging from how the building looks, there must have been one).
Set for the Crockett Players' production of Waiting for Godot
Crockett is a small town, but Port Costa is even smaller. Both sit along the Carquinez Straits and mull over their past glory as major hubs of the American Californian economy. The Straitside park where this photo was taken is midway between the two towns. The picture is slightly over exposed, making it look more like desert than it really is.
